Be a part of the Tolland 300th Anniversary parade: March or enter the float contest on Sept. 19!

The Tolland 300th Anniversary Committee is inviting all Tolland civic groups, school groups, neighborhoods, antique car owners and businesses to enter its Sept. 19 anniversary parade.

The committee is offering a total of $1,500 in prizes in its float contest. Neighborhoods will compete for one $500 prize; businesses based in Tolland will compete for another $500 prize, and all school and civic groups, sports teams, churches and Scout troops will compete for a $500 prize for best float in their division.

The parade will start at 1 P.M. from the town garage on Old Post Road and Tolland Intermediate School, turn left on town hall, follow the green and end at the corner of Dunn Hill and Old Stafford roads at the site of the new Tolland Founders Monument. It will be held rain or shine and follow a route that is 8/10 of a mile long.

Entry forms are available now at Tolland300.org (click on upcoming events, then “more info” next to the parade listing) and should be filled out and returned as soon as possible to parade@Tolland300.org or mailed to Tolland 300th co-chairwoman Celeste Senechal, 19 Joe Sabbath Dr., Tolland, CT 06084. Note: Entries received after Sept. 1 may not be accepted.

The theme is “The Settlers Still Rock!” Entries should reflect some period in Tolland history, and vehicles and floats are asked to play music from their era.
