Santini Family Lends Its Support to the Tolland 300th Anniversary Celebration

TOLLAND – The family of Eric and Lois Santini, known for building distinctive apartments and homes throughout the Tolland area, has made a generous gift of $2,500 to support the Tolland 300th Anniversary celebration.

The donation from Eric and Lois Santini, their son Kevin and his wife Kim, and their son Eric Jr. and his wife Kristin makes them the third “Shenipsit” level sponsor of the anniversary. Donors to the anniversary are listed at tolland300.org.

The family will be honored by the town council, the 300th Anniversary Committee, and its partner, the Tolland Historical Society, on Jan. 13 at 7:30 P.M. in council chambers at town hall.

The Santinis, who have lived in Tolland for more than 40 years, will be the major sponsor of a townwide picnic on Sept. 19. The picnic, which will include the Celebrate Tolland festival, will follow a large 300th anniversary parade that is set for 1 P.M. that day along the historic town green. The Tolland 300th anniversary committee is encouraging families to plan family reunions for that weekend so they can attend both events that day.

The Santini family has had a very positive experience living n Tolland and said they are grateful to have this opportunity to be a part of the 300th anniversary celebration.

Celeste Senechal, chairwoman of the anniversary committee, noted that the Santinis are the first Tolland family to make such a sizable gift to support the 300th anniversary.

“We are so grateful to the Santini family for signing on to be the sponsor of our townwide picnic,” she said. “Their gift is quite generous and will enable us to hold a fun activity, featuring music, good food, games, and family-friendly entertainment for the whole town on Sept. 19.”

Since 1968, Santini Villa Apartments has also provided high-quality rentals throughout the area. Founded in 1972 by Eric Santini, Santini Homes has built neighborhoods and hundreds of houses in Tolland, Vernon, and Ellington.

Besides the parade and picnic, the anniversary committee, historical society, and many civic groups will be holding dozens of events to mark the anniversary this year. They include a Charter Day celebration for schoolchildren on the Tolland Green May 12, a gala on May 16, and a tour of historic homes and museums on the green June 7. A Founders Monument will be dedicated June 13. To see the complete list of events, visit Tolland300.org.

More donations are being sought from businesses and residents who want to be a part of the celebration. Opportunities include being a member of the “Tolland 300 Club” by making a $300 donation.

Checks should be made out to the Town of Tolland, with “300th anniversary committee” in the memo line. Donations can be mailed to the Tolland 300th Anniversary Committee, Town Hall, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084.
