Tolland Lions Club Becomes Latest Major Donor to the Tolland 300th Anniversary Celebration

The Tolland Lions Club is donating $1,600 in in-kind services to the Tolland 300th Anniversary Celebration.

The club, which rents tents as a major source of revenue for its philanthropy in town, is donating a tent for the June 13 dedication of a Tolland Founders Monument and several tents, tables and chairs for the Sept. 13 townwide picnic.

The club is the latest business, family, or group to sign as a “Crandall” level sponsor of the anniversary. Donors are listed on the anniversary web site at www.tolland300.org.

Lions-Club-LogoThe club’s leaders will be honored March 24 at 7:30 P.M. at town hall by the Tolland Town Council, the anniversary committee and the Tolland Historical Society.

Brett Jones, president of the club, said the Lions are happy to be supporting the anniversary celebration.

“This is our community. As members of Lions International, we realize the importance of serving the community we live in,” Jones said. “While generally helping those most in need, we feel this is a great way to give back to the entire community that has supported us the past 46 years.”

Celeste Senechal, chairwoman of the anniversary committee, thanked the club for its generous donation.

“Since 1969, the Lions Club has been providing valuable community service to Tolland,” she said. “We really appreciate their help on the monument dedication and picnic this year.”

The anniversary events include a Charter Day celebration for schoolchildren on the Tolland Green May 12, a gala on May 16, and a large regional parade and picnic, which will be combined with the Celebrate Tolland festival, on Sept. 19.

More donations are being sought from businesses and residents who want to be a part of the celebration. Opportunities include being a member of the “Tolland 300 Club” by making a $300 donation.

Checks should be made out to the Town of Tolland, with “300th anniversary committee” in the memo line. Donations can be mailed to the Tolland 300th Anniversary Committee, Town Hall, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084.

About the Tolland Lions Club
The Tolland Lions Club was organized on Nov. 10, 1969 by a group of Tolland business people who, through the Lions International, was given a means to give back to the community. The club is known for its annual pancake breakfast on the Tolland Green before the Memorial Day parade. It also paid for and built the Lions Ball Field on Cider Mill Road and generously contributes each year to the Tolland Food Bank, the high school scholarship fund, and other great causes.
